Welcome to my Blog!

 Hi everyone and welcome to my corner of the internet! I'm so excited to start this blog and begin this adventure in EME 6414. For my first post I wanted to touch upon social media and my usage of it. Since this class focuses on social networking and learner interactions I decided to take a look at my own usage of social media. To be completely honest, I don't find myself to be a social media guru, although I have a presence on several popular platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, etc. This is most likely due to the constant change and updating of these platforms. They are always being updated with the smallest of changes in order to retain the attention of their various audiences. In my opinion, I think social media is a great way to network and connect with others you may not have thought to originally. I grew up in a time where technology was really starting to advance and social media was in what I consider to be its early stages. I distinctly remember in middle school, watching Apple commercials about the first iPhone and thinking how cool it would be to have a phone that could do all of those things. Fast forward to now and nearly everyone I know has either an Apple or Android smartphone, as well as a presence on social media. Overall, I find social media and technology to be an effective tool for people to use for not only communication, but also advancing other aspects of their lives.

 I was reading an article the other day about how parents of children feel that the internet is a completely environment than when they were kids. Personally I'd have to say that they're right. The internet has expanded and evolved into a giant. It is always changing and growing with the users that interact with it. In this day and age people can log on to their computers and search anything and everything, with instantaneous results. That type of instant gratification is unmatched, especially once it becomes part of your daily routine. Kids today are so used to immediately being able to find answers, and it isn't always a bad thing. With my students, I stress the importance of quality information over quantity, as well as using the internet for productivity. How it started vs How it's going Challenge: EME 6414 Edition

If you've been on any form of social media for the last 6 months (mostly tiktok and instagram) you've probably seen the "How it started vs How it's going" Challenge. If you're unsure of what this is allow me to explain. Basically this meme represented a bookend of an event or something that has occurred. Some people use this to represent their relationship's progression, others use it to show their progression (or lack of) with a skill. The beauty of this meme is that the second image really doesn't even need to make sense.
