good 4 u
Has anyone noticed that when you're in a good mood everything is great, but when you're in a bad mood it's the end of the world no positivity in sight? Just me? Okay maybe I'm too dramatic for my own good but after keeping track of my mood for the past month I've noticed 2 things,
1. When you're good, you're great
2. When you're not good, you're not great
Your mood is affected by so many things throughout the day and the majority of them are unpredictable. If you're like me and you want to always be in control, I've got some bad news for you. In my experience, in order to gain control of things, I've had to give up more of it that I'm comfortable with.
I ended up reading this article from Forbes about positivity and productivity. Basically the main takeaway from this is that your productivity can be affected by how positive you are. The article gives some good tips on how to battle this. I've tried a few and they seem to work (the hype playlist was well received by my snapchat followers).
Let me know if you try any in the comments!
Also if you haven't listened to Olivia Rodrigo's song good 4 u, you are missing out big time. Gives off major Paramore vibes for those of us that used to jam out to Misery Business in middle school.
What a great article! So many helpful tips! A couple that I've found useful (like you mentioned) the hype playlist, music is such an upper for me - a good song turned up really loud can be an instant mood-changer. I've also found meditation to be extremely helpful, not guided meditation so to speak, but rather simply making time to clear your head and exist in the present, without issues from the past or anxieties take up too much real estate in your daily peace of mind. Out of all of these though, I find talking to people who inspire me the most meaningful. This last year has been difficult for many of us and I've found the emotional lift I get from daily interactions with people to be lacking - and Zoom really isn't the same. I can't say how much this has effected my productivity, nevertheless the point of the article - linking positive mood to productivity is well-taken - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDuring the pandemic, I was so fortunate to be able to change my scenery and to go outside, go for a walk, which is so much more than what I can do now as I am stuck in an office. I also use Calm, especially when I feel like a pacing Tiger in a cage. Turning off tech is a tough one, mainly now that I am back in school. But, like you, I have had to make some difficult choices primarily for selfcare and sanity. I had to let something go that I am incredibly passionate about for the past 40 years. I know that I will circle back to it, but for right now, I need to let it go. Interesting that I have also had to let go of people, unfortunately some are family, who do not value me, even want to understand me, and that was painful. I leapt into somatic therapy at the beginning of the pandemic, and interestingly enough, she had me keep a journal of my feelings and how my body felt when I had those feelings – two different things. After a year, I have gotten pretty good at making that connection; connecting the physical feeling with the emotional feeling and regulating myself better. Meditation has also been a huge help but it’s hard to get that in every day. My son is much better at the practice than I am.
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me to create a hype playlist. I have artists that I go to for long bike rides, but a list sounds better. Thank you!
